Data protection cases and fines at a glance

Data transfer to the USA without adequate safeguards: The Dutch supervisory authority imposed a fine of 290 million euros on Uber Technologies and Uber BV for transferring data of Uber drivers to the USA without GDPR-compliant safeguards.
Requests for information not answered: A Belgian telecommunications company received a fine of 100,000 euros for not answering customer requests in accordance with Art. 15 GDPR.
Video surveillance by a private individual: A private individual in Spain was fined 300 euros for filming public spaces without authorization and information.
Stolen computers were not encrypted: In Denmark, unencrypted laptops were stolen, resulting in a fine of 26,803 euros for the municipality.
Incorrect dispatch of payslips: Uniqlo received a fine of 270,000 euros because pay slips for 446 people were sent out by mistake due to inadequate technical and organizational measures. Source
